Meatballs in Marinara sauce

This week we are going to be making Meatballs in marinara sauce.
We are really taking your cooking skills up a notch by making mains and sides.
This class has been requested by one of our fantastic kids in the kitchen members.

Meatballs in Marinara sauce
Equipment
- 1 Large mixing bowl
- 1 Flat baking tray
- 1 Large Saucepan
Ingredients
- 400 g spaghetti
- 500 g pork mince
- 2 garlic cloves crushed
- 2 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tbsp tomato puree
- 1 medium onion
- 400 ml carton of passata
- 1 pinch of sugar
- 1 red pepper
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh basil to serve
- 1 good shaving of parmesan to serve
Instructions
- For your meatballs
- Preheat oven to 180 fan
- In a large mixing bowl add the pork mince and grate in 1 garlic clove, add in the oregano and some chopped fresh parsley
- Season with salt and pepper
- Get your hands stuck in and mould the mince into 12 meatballs
- Put the 12 meatballs onto a flat baking tray
- Place in the oven on the middle shelf and bake for 20 minutes
- After 8 minutes add your spaghetti to a large pan (we will show you a trick to help it not to stick to the bottom)
- Get an adult to pour over boiling water and simmer for 12 minutes (it's the adult's job to look after the pasta and to take the meatballs out of the oven
For your marinara sauce
- Peel your onion and garlic
- The adult will chop the onion and you can grate the garlic
- Slice the red pepper with a scissors
- Add a drizzle of oil to a pan, over low heat and carefully add the onion and garlic until you hear a little sizzle
- Cook until you have a little colour and add the red pepper
- Add the passata, tomato puree, pinch of sugar and another tablespoon of oregano Season with a little salt and pepper
- Leave your sauce to bubble gently
- When your meatballs are cooked add them to your marinara sauce
- Serve with spaghetti and a shaving of parmesan and some fresh basil
