I was a very late convert to sprouts. I never liked them as a child and used to hide them in under my leftover turkey. I think the old boil them to death method didn’t help that. Honey roasting them and adding bacon and Sesame seeds adds another dimension to them. My Recipe for honey roast brussels sprouts is ready in 30 minutes, coming out of the oven sweet and sticky, with a tiny bit of a crunch. Perfect for Christmas day while you’re letting the turkey have a rest, you just stick them in the oven and leave them to cook, no need to shake, toss or turn. ( the perfect opportunity to sneak in a wee glass of wine) 🙂
Ingredients
- 1 bag of Brussel sprouts
- 1 pack of pack of bacon lardons (I use smoked around 200g)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 garlic bulb
- 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds
Method
Heat oven to 180c Gas mark 4
Cut sprouts in half .. remove little stem and outer leaves
add the sprouts to a mixing bowl with your bacon lardons
Drizzle over.. oil first… then honey… then balsamic vinegar and give a good mix.. season with salt and pepper.
transfer to an ovenproof dish with the lardons, placing the garlic bulb unpeeled in the centre cook
for 30 mins until golden…… after 30 mins squeeze the garlic bulb roasted garlic cloves will pop out, mix them through the sprouts and bacon and sprinkle over your sesame seeds to finish
and that,s it! These also taste great as a midweek meal with stir-fried noodles.
Enjoy x
Ohhh this is a different way of cooking sprouts. I’m not keen on them myself but a lot of my family members are, I might try cooking them this way. xx
i would recommend if your not a fan x thanks for your comment x 🙂
I love an underdog so I’ve always had a soft spot for sprouts. Luckily my mother had a delicate touch and knew not to boil all the taste and crunch out of them but these bad boys look stellar, I’m cooking this year so might give them a whirl.
They are well worth it x enjoy x thanks for your lovely comment x
Yum! I am the only one that loves sprouts – I bet these would also taste good if you add bacon to them!
These look tasty and a good way to make the sprouts more appetising for my daughter!
I hate Brussels sprouts and I still do. But I like the sound of adding honey and balsamic vinegar perhaps I give this a try. Thank you for sharing this
See I don’t even know why people don’t like Brussels Sprouts I think they are delicious and this honey recipe sounds good. Can’t wait to try it.
Oh wow! I’m definitely trying these. 🙂
I too am not big on Brussels sprouts so might need to try this recipe and see if it will work for me too.
My eldest loves sprouts but my partner and toddler hate them I think I might have to try these to see if they will eat them xx

Sounds delicious, we tend to add some bacon to ours as well for some added flavour, although I am going to suggest your recipe this year 🙂 thank you x
These sprouts look gorgeous – so delicious & I bet much tastier than the standard steamed sprouts I make!! x
Made a similar version of these recently but didn’t add the black sesame, I’d say it adds a lovely gentle sweetness!
No one eats the sprouts but me and with this recipe I really wouldn’t mind having the whole tray to myself!!! It’s so simple to make too, Winner!
