I’ve had a few queries about slow cooker ham, so I thought I,d do a quick post on it to answer any questions you have.
From cooking times to what flavours to add its all in this one.
For a small 1 kg ham perfectly moist to carve. Set to low and cook for 6 hours.
for Pulled pork cook for 8 hours
For a 2 to a 2.5 kg ham set to medium and cook for 6 hours to carve (it will be so moist)
for pulled pork cook for 8 hours..
(All slow cookers differ so double check you’re manual) but this is a perfect guide
liquid/ no liquid
Coke… if cooking in coke just make sure you have enough to completely cover the joint and use regular coke.
if your not a fan of using coke you can cover in stock or juice
or just cook it as it is with no liquid.. (I do this)
What to add?
You can throw a few things into the slow cooker like cloves, star anise and sliced oranges to add a bit of Christmas but if you’re doing a glaze there is really no need for this
To rub or not to rub
if dry cooking your ham you can rub it with : (in a bowl mix)
2 tablespoons of dijon mustard, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar and a tablespoon of honey you can add a few loose cloves too
after slow cooking cut the top rind off and score diamonds into the white layer of fat
Traditional Glaze… pierce with cloves and in a bowl mix 2 tablespoons of dijon mustard, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, a tablespoon of honey and a pinch of allspice, season with salt and pepper.
Spread over the ham and oven bake for 20 minutes at 180c
For Something different: this is my favorite glaze, In a bowl add 2 tablespoons of soy and 3 tablespoons of honey and 3 tablespoons of ketchup
spread over the ham and cook in the oven like above for 20 mins at 180
and that’s it….
