I have always been a fan of west port! The music , the atmosphere, the crac and the few Scoops!!! But that was life before I was a “mummy”. As a family we were, well over due a break away. So we checked into Hotel Westport to see what it had to offer as a “Family” holiday destination.
We arrived a little early for our room.( getting the early train from Dublin, Saving “One yummy
Daddy” the drive) We checked in, and as our room wasn’t ready, we,re delighted with the complementary tea and coffee at the bar. The bar was roomy but cosy and the bar staff were extremely friendly, one of them being an award winning cocktail maker!! (but it was a too bit early for that,) So we relaxed with our coffee, and soaked up the surroundings …
Our room was a Premier room and had the biggest bed I,ve ever seen… It also had a low profile bed – a specially commissioned bed which is low to the floor and ideal for children. Which was perfect for “lils”! But she had other ideas. The Bathroom was stunning, it had an enclosed shower (not a hose over a bath) twin sink,s and bath . The whole of the hotel was spotless with beautiful mood lighting. We settled in (as in, we found the kettle, and hung up our clothes.) Yum had a little tester of the “big big” bed as she called it and we then went for a spot of lunch.
As you know Im all about is Real food for Children. One of my pet hates is a kiddy menu that,s completely deep fried. Hotel Westport has signed up to the IHF Food for Kids Programme – promoting healthy eating . The children s menu was really varied, with the chicken gougons made with real chicken breast… lils went for the pasta and meatballs. They went down a treat… She nearly cleared the huge potion! One happy little Girl. The staff chatted to her, giving a sense of a relaxed vibe around children. (which made us so relaxed as a family)
The hotel has a free baby listening service, or babysitting service (where you pay the babysitter yourself as an extra)
We went for the babysitting service and booked a table to dine for 8.30pm. Date night!!! We hadn’t been out in ages. Lils settled into her toddler bed no problem (I know I was in shock too) and was fast asleep when the babysitter came. She was a lovely lady, who had kids herself and I felt very comfortable leaving her… So we tipped toed out the door (feeling like two teenagers)
We had a drink in the bar while we waited for our table . (I checked my phone for a text from the babysitter) I used to babysit all the time, in my childcare days. It felt so strange to now be the grown-up,s out on the Razz!
We Dinned at the Islands Restaurant, which has recently been awarded an AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence for the third year in a row. It had a Casual but elegant feel. The waiting staff were professional, friendly, attending to our needs. But giving us the space to enjoy the food. The food was impeccable, cooked with skill and attention to detail. (but not scrimping on portion size which is important too)
We enjoyed the 4 course set menu, and finished the evening with a night cap in the bar. There was a live, two-piece band, playing and a great atmosphere ( even a few out dancing) NO I didn’t grace the floor. (Westport was saved of my dance moves on this occasion).. We had 2 more drinks, but after the 4 course meal I was only fit for bed ( and couldn’t wait to get into the “big big” bed).. I had such a comfortable sleep, and didn’t want to get out of the bed the next morning.( I really milked the fact that breakfast is served until 11am)
